emergency kit for nuclear attacks

Merely allow the solids to settle and drink the water off the top. See to it you turn off the electricity or propane gas to your heater right before draining or it will be destroyed! Crack an upper spout and open up a lower hose pipe bib or spout to drain a handful of gallons of water out of your home's pipes.

Make use of water filters and treatment chemicals. I know from experience that most anyone will drink from the worst, scummiest water soon after having gone without any water for over a day in harsh heat! If you must leave your property, carrying a personal supply of water on your back would certainly be incredibly challenging (at a quart per person every day, a household of four would take in 100 lbs of water in 3 days).

Flood waters are often exceptionally polluted with farm waste, human sewage, and commercial chemicals, so I strongly advise that you buy a bacteriological back-country-type water filter that has a carbon core to also remove harmful chemicals, bad tastes, and stenches. You can chemically deal with surface water with household tincture of iodine ( six drops per gallon) and pure chlorine bleach ( four drops per gallon) and permitting water to set for twenty seconds.

I create these items for a living, so I understand what I am speaking about. Boiling for exactly 1 min will get rid of all water-borne microorganisms, but will do nothing to remove toxic chemicals, bad tastes, and odors.
